Alfred Werner started manufacturing cameras in 1885. First model was a David Salon Camera, based on a design by Ludwig David who worked with Alfred. Alfred died in 1888 and camera business was picked up by Alfred's associate Wilhelm Müller. Both, Werner and Müller owned the "R. Lechner University Bookstore", and in the beginning they used the bookstore's premises to manufacture cameras. In c1910s Müller took over "Kamera-Industrie GmbH", renamed it to "Camera-Industrie Austria Wilh. Müller", and started manufacturing cheaper cameras under the "Austria-Kameras" brand. The better grade cameras were continued to be manufactured under Rudolph Lechner (W. Müller) and Lechner-Müller names.
