Shōwa Kōgaku was founded in 1938 in Tokyo by Nakagawa Kenzō. For the first year it was in business, it was known as Kyōei-sha; it was then renamed to Shōwa Kōgaku. Later, it was renamed several additional times, and was known first as Shōwa Kōgaku Seiki K.K. and then as Leotax Camera K.K. This company ceased camera production in 1961.
