The company was founded in London in 1841 as partnership of Fallon Horne and William H Thornthwaite. As E G Wood joined the company in 1846 the name was changed to Horne, Thornthwaite & Wood. Between 1856 and 1886 the name was Horne & Thornthwaite while E.G.Wood led his own business. In 1886 Wood returned to the partnership and the name was Horne, Thornthwaite & Wood until his retirement in 1894, then his name was removed again. The business was wound up c1913.
