This 1940 Viking takes 8 pictures (2 ½” x 4 ¼”) on a roll of 616 film. It uses a Viking 6.3 Anastigmat lens (hard coated plus color corrected) plus the Vario shutter equipped with flash synchronization. The lens openings are f/6.3, 8, 11, 16, 22, and 32, with shutter speeds of B, 1/25, 1/50, and 1/100 of a second. This is a particularly confusing time for Agfa, Ansco, and Agfa Ansco camera identification. McKeown’s list this camera as using 120 or 116 roll film but it was also produced for the PD16 (616) film that is the same format as that of 116 film but on a slimmer spool. The body of the camera was designed by Ansco and the Trolitan covering is an Agfa invention. This camera has a Brilliant finder mounted on the lens and a fold down optical viewfinder mounted on the body. The camera also has a ¼” 20 thread tripod mount for both landscape and portrait. A red view window with a cover in the back of the camera allows you to set the film to the next frame plus keep count by reading the number on the film backing. The little metal cover warns to open it only when winding the film. Like most folding cameras it has a portrait fold down foot used to place the camera on a flat surface. The shutter does not supply any double exposure protection but it does have a threaded plunger port.
