The original model of the Jilona Midget is indeed the smallest of the entire “HIT” type camera family. The quality of these 1937-39 cameras is very high, and they have “heft”. Thefolding viewfinder is delicate, spring loaded with on open rear aperature and a piece of flat glass in front, which is delicately beveled. The shutter, unlike most of these, doesn’t need to be “cocked”, and requires some pressure to fire. Opposite the wind knob is a feature with “Jilona midget No. 1233”. This small block is grooved to allow a small spring loaded right angle finder to be attached. Filters, yellow and green, and a sunshade were available. The camera was sold with a leather purse, and an everready case was sold separately. The lens is a fairly large convex meniscus with a fixed f 6.8 opening and a rear achromat lens. ••• while many collect these, and never shoot them, this camera really delivers excellent images, with only very slight shade vignetting in the corners. Focus is well set and gives a nice quality negative.
