This 126 film cartridge camera was introduced in 1970 and went on to at least 2001. Although 126 film was once very popular, as of 2008 it is no longer manufactured, and few photofinishers will process it. The camera boasted an AO (American Optical Corporation) plastic meniscus lens that changed it from a toy to a camera. American Optical Corporation began in 1833 and is well known to this day for telescopes, microscopes, and those mirror aviator sunglasses that have become classics dating back to the 1930’s. The company is still located in Southbridge Massachusetts. The Lava Simplex Snapper also had a flash cube attachment that took two AAA batteries. The flash unit is not pictured here but the camera had two contactor ports on the side to plug it into. The camera comes with an optical viewfinder, double exposure protection, film advance knob with one direction, an f16 fixed aperture, 28mm lens, and it retailed for $8.95.
