The company traces its roots to 1892, starting as a small company repairing and manufacturing photographic supply. It began manufacturing cameras in c1930. The company produced cameras for itself as well rebranded cameras for some warehouses. The name of the company was changed several times: EHO-Kamerafabrik, Amca Werk Berthold Altmann, Altissa Camera Werk, VEB Altissa Camera Werk. In 1959 it was merged into the VEB Kamera- und Kinowerke, which later became a VEB Pentacon.
