Éclair company was founded in 1907 by Charles Jourjon in France. The first camera was produced in 1912. In 1968 Éclair was acquired by Harry Saltzman along with another French cine cameras manufacturer Debrie and incorporated into Éclair- Debrie (UK) Ltd. In 1973 Éclair-Debrie went bankrupt and Eclair (UK) continued its operations separately. French side of the business also survived and still alive.
