Blair Tourograph Co. was originally established in Connecticut in 1878 by Thomas Henry Blair. In the beginning Blair cameras were
manufactured by America Optical Company division of Scovill. In 1881 Blair moved to Boston and created his own
manufacturing process, though the president of the company at that time was Darius Goff, the financial sponsor. The company became known as
Blair Tourograph & Dry Plate Co and in 1886 simply as Blair Camera Company.In 1889 Blair Co. acquired the Greenpoint Optical Company and some parts of the The Edward Anthony Company. Shortly after, in 1890 Blair Co. expanded again, acquiring the Boston Camera Company. Thomas was removed from the company management in 1893 (creating his own American Camera Manufacturing Company in 1896) and soon after that, in 1899 the Blair company was sold to Eastman Kodak where it continued to operate independently with the headquarters in Rochester, N.Y. until 1908, when the company became Blair Camera Division of Eastman Kodak Company. |
