Value must be much more than posted. the Original "AP" model had a production run of almost 20,000 units and is valued at close to $1000 in mint condition. The Pentax "S" only had a production run of approximately 4000 units worldwide. It is the rarest of all "normal" pentax production cameras. It's present value is posted as only a few hundred dollars due to the fact that there is very limited sales history. My estimation a mint "S" model should be at least in the $1000-$1500 range.

I bought one 3 months ago for $500 that was listed as in working condition, but it was advertised very poorly on eBay. The guy listed it on eBay as S1/S3 because he had a instruction manual that said S1/S3. However, despite this the picture showed it was clearly just an S model. You would think a black Pentax S should be very rare because the black Pentax K and black Pentax AP are also very rare and they sell in the thousands.

So auction finished on 12/22 and it ended up selling for $652. I am feeling pretty good because mine is in better condition and it fully works. =P

Here is a picture of my black Pentax S. I bought it from eBay on 10/03/12 for $504. Condition was pristine except for circular marks around the tripod socket and some engraved numbers (I don't know why people did that back then!) The shutter could not advance when I received it, but after a CLA it's working and I am about to verify it with film.
