This image is not the original Alsaflex but the Alsaflex 'Dudragne' - the more common and simplified medical version supplied with Dudragne Retinographs. The hole in the top is for the specialised finder and it did not have the Alsaflex SLR viewfinder arrangement of mirrors and prisms - which was very like the Olympus Pen F system and may have been licenced to them later. The Dudragne version was ' gutted' and had a simple, conventional reflex mirror with vertical viewing as there was no prism. It also had just one shutter speed - 1/100th from the rotary shutter, a similar type to that found in the Univex Mercury and rated at 1/2400th in the proper version. The original Alsaflex has a plain top plate with the name engraved on it and coloured leathers, red and green bands. The 50mm lens here would have been a 40mm f/2.8 Boyer Saphir on the original.
The dates for the Alsaflex are normally given as 1951-2 and for this later medical version, 1956. Values for a good original example with 40mm lens would be expected to top 10,000 Euro by now.
