Often I have wondered: Who looks at my inventory page? How many people have looked at it? What do they think of it?
And on the other side of that, I have seen some impressive collections here and would like to tell the owners what I think.
I have sent private messages to people to tell them how much I like their collections, but I was thinking it might be nice to be able to somehow comment on collections. Maybe there could be a place at the bottom of the inventory pages to leave a comment. And you could choose to disable comments if you'd prefer. People with private collections would obviously not have a place for comments, but perhaps it could be made to appear if they changed from private to public.
With regard to the other questions, could stats be compiled & shown? "Number of page views" would be the obvious one, but could there also be something telling you who viewed it? Could that include non-registered guests to the site? Could the stats tell you if there are repeat viewers?
Does anyone think these are good ideas?
Diser, would you consider this easy to do, a fun challenge, or a potential headache?

On stats: while this may not address all questions/suggestions, look at the hjh67 profile:

He used custom flagcounter. You can create a personal account on their web-site and insert it in the collection description too. There are some other free "counter" sites, and I think statcounter.com is one of the most popular ones. It can show you unique/repeating visitor counts, their locations, etc.
On comments: I was thinking about creating some sort of a comments section - in the same way as they are set up for individual cameras/lenses. Didn't know if someone needs it or not. I'll put it in my to-do list then

Re: Comments on collections?
I had thought about a counter before, but didn't do it. Now I did. Added counter!
The only problem I can see happening is soliciting to buy or sell stuff and or spam/offensive stuff from non members.
I hate to say it like that.
If you do do it would it only be registered users able to make comments?
OR-
Would we have control to delete comments?
Still..I'm interested in it if it happens.

Re: Comments on collections?
A comments section sounds like a good idea but indeed I would prefer if only registered users could comment and/or comments can be removed.
Interested in seeing what I am collecting ? Check out my camera collection:

Re: Comments on collections?
If the flagcounter is intalled the records can be only viewed in the pubic inventory mode, so each of my own clicks adds one flag. I think that the flags are added according to the server location. I worked 2 years ago some time in Nepal, my hotel provided a satellite link to a Swedish server (the Nepali servers block access to some sites e.g. BBC) so I got a some extra Swedish flags during my assignment.
Re: Comments on collections?
hjh67, I guess is was a proxy server in Sweden. And yes, if that's a secure proxy server which doesn't rely the end-user's IP address, of if visitor uses the SSL-tunnel, there is no way to track the exact location.
Re: Comments on collections?
I would be interested in being able to sort my camera collection based on the year when the camera was produced, not sure if other people feel the same.
