AGFA: Billy 0

Postby keltic_tom » Mon Mar 18, 2013 7:05 pm

You list the Billy0 from 1932 to 1937. I think the first was 1933. They hit the market with the Solinar lens which was a Tessar clone. The Zeiss Tessar patent of 1902 stayed in effect until the end of 1932. Beginning in 1933 Agfa and twenty other optical companies produced their own version of the Tessar (4 elements /3 groups). The original Zeiss and its many clones became the best selling of the 20th Century.

Interesting information, thanks a lot, Tom!

What about Igestar lenses though? I see at least two references to Billy 0 with Igestar f/5.6 7.5cm, from c1931-1932:
Willi Kerkmann's Deutsche Kameras 1839-1945, and
Fotografische Rundschau und Mitteilungen, Volume 69, 1932

Also vade mecum lists the earliest Igestar reference in B.J.A. 1931, so I believe 1932 is a valid option. What do you think?
