TAYLOR, TAYLOR& HOBSON 8 INCH LENS

Hi, I am new to this forum so I apologise if I sound like a complete amateur, I am.

I have recently been given a box of old camera stuff and I have identified all the bits except this lens which looks in good condition and says on the inside COOKE TELEPANCHRO 8 INCH 203MM f/4 (T4.5) No 517050 and on the outside Made by TAYLOR, TAYLOR & HOBSON Ltd England Pats. Brit. 697366 US. 2660095 and 2 1/2 INCH DIA FILTER.
Would anyone be able to tell me a bit about this lens, what it is used for and a possible value.
Based on this kind information I can then decide what to do with it.
