Balda: Hansa 35

Postby bill339 » Wed Oct 03, 2018 12:40 pm

The Balda Hansa 35 is a 35mm folding billows pocket camera less than 5 inches long, 3 ¼ inch wide, and 1 1/2 inch deep when closed. It has a very small optical viewfinder and the Prontor-S shutter is loaded manually and set is a Westar 3.5 50mm lens. The shutter speeds are B to 1/300 of a second. The shutter lens assembly has a flash port and an accessory mount is on the top of the camera. The left-handed shutter release has provisions for a plunger. The film advance knob is on the bottom right with the film release button and the thinner rewind knob is top left. The camera also has a frame counter, ¼ inch 20 thread tripod mount, flip down the foot for tabletop placement, 3 foot to infinity focus, and a depth of focus chart on the back film compartment door for the 50mm lens. As mentioned on Collectiblend, the camera is circa 1951 and sold under other names such as "Baldini" (1951), "Central 35", "Rival 35", "Tenda 35", "Studiophot" and "Pinette".

I just love my Balda and have taken some wonderful photographs with it. Once for something very important the flash had broken, so I purchased a slow film opened apparture and took some really good photos with no flash. Trouble is now the winder does not always work and you cannot feel if it is working or not. Lens is the best too.

Another picture of 1951 Hansa 35 ( Baldini) with 3.5/50 Westar in Prontor S. This one is accompanied by two examples of 1950 Baldinette : one with S-K 3.5/50 Radionar in Prontor S and one also with S-K 3.5/50 Radionar but in Prontor SV. Notice different lettering style on vulcanite coverings of two Baldinettes.
