Kiev Arsenal: Kiev 88

Postby Ross » Sun Oct 12, 2014 7:20 pm

I have one of these, the full kit in it's original case.
When it arrived from the Ukraine it had been very badly packed and was well shaken up.
The shutter stuck open on the first attempt at firing it.
I removed the lens mount and the inner body plates and started to poke around.
It did not take long to find a tiny flake of chrome had got caught in a gear and stopped it rotating.
A quick clean and all was returned to normal function.
I think of this camera as being a rather beautiful thing and it lives in a glass display case, coming out to get cycled through it's function only. It was only just over 20 years from deciding that i might one day have one to actually getting it.
Now i am well aware that a Hasslebladski is not a prestige classy camera, but i am fond of this.
Family heirloom now.

These were somewhat rare among photo enthusiasts even in the USSR.
