Re: Ilford: Advocate I
Condition B/C sold on Ebay Jan 27 2013 for 200 GBP -- The bidding was open for 7 days and there were 3147 views - looks like there is a lot of interest in these cameras.
"On offer is this extremely rare Ilford Advocate 35mm film Camera.Colour is Ivory enamel onto an aluminum body (my photos make it look whiter than it really is due to using flash to pick out other features). I'm not familiar with this camera but it seems to be working perfectly - the shutter lever to my mind is slightly unresponsive (don't get that satisfying clunky sound you usually get with a film camera) but the actual shutter mechanism works smoothly when it is used so I guess that is just how it is was designed. The lens is a Dallmeyer 35mm F/3.5. Camera dates from around 1953."
Q&A
V: i very like this camera. may i bid it for 120 GBP ?and if this lens clear of scratches and fungus? how much send to china ? thanks. 21-jan-13
A: The lens has no scratches or fungus. I only send Insured and Signed for to China, cost will be £25 shipping. I do not end my auctions early but that means you may get it for less than £120, though there is a lot of interest. Good luck Peter
V: Does this camera work? Is there any portion broken to this camera? Can a photograph be taken with this camera? The state of a lens? There are fungi? Does a shutter work? There is sticky shutter speed? Can you ship to Japan? How much is the shipping cost to Japan? 21-jan-13
A: Hi - The camera is UNTESTED - I do not know if it will successfully take a photo. I have described the mechanics in my listing - all appear ok. Lens have NO fungus. I estimate p&p to Japan will be approx £15 regular airmail or £22 insured and signed for. Thanks for your interest Pete

Re: Ilford: Advocate I
There is also a special version of the Ilford Advocate 1 used by the UK Ministry of Environment (M of E) - such a camera was sold on Ebay (July 7 2014) for 114 GBP (Ebay object 161349713897)

Re: Ilford: Advocate I
I wonder why "M of E" model didn't get higher bids
Re: Ilford: Advocate I
That's the thing with Ebay - you have to be lucky. If it is not spotted you could do some nice deals - I don't think this price is representative - a normal camera would probably have fetched this price (the camera is quite damaged, though, there are a few chips in the enamel).
