Olympus autofocus models

Postby diser » Sun Nov 13, 2016 10:56 am

While I was researching Olympus version names for Japanese, USA, and European markets, I noticed several errors and missing information in various sources like camera-wiki, or even Olympus itself. Here is an attempt to organize AZ/Infinity/OZ/IZM/Superzoom line of compact autofocus cameras. Please add missing information or let me know if something is not right.

Hi Eugene,

I'll work on it. I did get as far as the AZ-220 Wide Zoom and according to Olympus history it was introduced in 1991. They also have other fully automatic zoom cameras like the (LT-1) released in 1994 with a (QD) version released in 1996 and the (LT Zoom 105) released in 1997. They are both Japan releases so I have to research further to see what marketing named them in USA and Europe. You have already found out, the information is hard to come by. Everything up to the AZ-220 is correct. I will do my best on the rest of it as quickly as I can. Do you need the µ[mju:] (Stylus) Series also?

Thanks, Bill!
µ[mju:]/Stylus are already on the site in the proper (I think) way.

I didn't want to include AF*, LT*, and Trip* models, but probably should if they correlate to cameras in this list in one way or another (especially if they had various names in different markets). Also, I already spent several days on this list, so if you see obvious errors, let me know. Or if you have or seen other cameras from these series which are not listed. Don't dig hard, some of these models take too much time to research

Hi Eugene,

You must have pulled your hair out by now trying to nail down the Olympus information you have found. Olympus has separated each marketing area (Olympus Europe, Japan, and USA) and one has no information on the other plus the format does not match. Anyway everything you have down on the spread sheet looks great. I have e-mailed Olympus Japan in an effort to gain more information directly from them. They must have a data base hidden somewhere. I'll keep hammering them with e-mails till they send the men in black! :)

You are killing it!!! I sent you an e-mail to your other e-mail address with the reply back from Japan Olympus. They gave a link to the Olympus site I seen before but missed (Camera Lineup).

I also sent a e-mail to the US site for Olympus asking for a list with the years introduced or produced. Will see what that gets us. Most of the info on film cameras is missing when you click on it as you know. Who does that! They must of downsized and the history department took the bullet.

My last question is, do you sleep?

Thanks for the email! Yeah, I was consulting that page somewhat. Unfortunately it lists mostly Japanese names (i.e. IZM), so correlating those with European and American names was another (sleepless ) story.

Tuff work this! The Europe site has nothing but digital cameras under the history label and no real way of contacting them. It is like they have three different companies and mission statements. Oh well hang in! :D
