Camera Values Comparison: 1990 vs. 2005.

Collectors often wonder if camera prices are going up or down, what cameras are gaining value and which ones are loosing it. Peter Kroezen from Vintage-camera-online.com created a nice compilation of some camera values back from 1990, and more recent prices from 2005. What it shows, is that some cameras demand increased a lot, and some values almost diminished. Here is the compilation:

There's a problem with the lower end of the list, with the negative values (and by extension, with all). First, $20 shipping is not realistic for most of these cameras. But to make a correct comparison, you must subtract the shipping amount from both the 1991 and 2005 figures to get a correct percentage of change. The shipping is really an irrelevent figure since you're only comparing McKeown's prices, but if it's used, it has to be applied to both dates. If you do that, then some of the negative numbers end up in the positive range again.

Agree, I'll send the comment to Peter, who compiled the list. The only possible explanation is if 1990-1991 McKeown's specifically noted that those prices exclude shipping, and 2005-2006 include shipping

Luvantique, I decided to change a percentage in a table, remove -$20 column and modify resulted %% change. I guess it is more accurate now, but it doesn't include the inflation, which was huge between 1990 and 2005: 49.4%.
