Following digital cameras

Postby Madd10 » Tue Feb 12, 2013 12:58 am

Unless I missed it, it looks like Collectiblend does not have any digital cameras - is this on purpose ? Some of these are becoming classical - and some are first time and probably still affordable ;)
For example Nikon D1
But it may be tricky to include some and others not ?

Why not consider the Nikon D1 as a classic camera. It was the first real Nikon professional affordable digital camera. Replacing the by Kodak "hacked" Nikon bodies (Kodak DCS). The DCS system is covered in the database.

I see several eBay sales for 89-90, body only.
I'll definitely add it as soon as any of the hammer auctions sells it, but if you consider this camera to be collectible, I can add it now for sure :)

Personally I think it will soon become collectible. Nikon recently officially stopped any support for the D1, at this point there are still people buying it mainly for actual photography but this will probably change soon with more people starting to buy them for collecting. The problem is that we do not really have fixed criteria to decide when a camera is becoming a collectible. Maybe the definition should be the first time we record a hammer sale ? It is a grey area, I'll leave it to you if you want to add the D1 or not.
