Folding German Cameras (I know... good luck, right?)

Postby blammert » Wed Feb 03, 2021 6:51 pm

Recently added to my ever-burgeoning collection two German cameras that I have no clue how to catalog. I’m truly not that interested in $, just curious about the cameras themselves. After a bit of research, I believe they are from the 1930s, likely (between WWI and WWII). Pictures are attached:

Camera #1 - Identifiers: Vario shutter, Spezial Aplanet lens - no additional identifying marks - not in good condition at all - bellows are good, but leatherette is ripping/cracking. Lens/face looks good, but showing age. Metal shutter/etc. is scratched

Camera #2 - Identifiers: Pronto shutter, Rodenstock trinar Anastigmat lens - AGC on front - on back script maybe ads BW, and on opposite side, DRGM (which I realize identifies the timeframe between WWI and WWII - may 1930s) - much better condition - bellows good, face in good standing, leatherette is ok, not great, but not scratched - peeling in only one spot.

I’m pretty sure the auction I purchased them from took a low bid from me at $15 for the pair. I’m interested in finding out more about them so I can catalog them properly, so if anyone is able to assist, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Your camera #2 is a Balda camera based on the logo on the back http://www.historiccamera.com/cgi-bin/librarium2/pm.cgi?action=app_display&app=datasheet&app_id=3242
In order to identify the model you would need to share a few more pictures from all sides (also for your camera #1) at this point my best guess would be a Juwella. https://collectiblend.com/Cameras/Balda/Juwella.html
Best regards.
