I have only owned ( and seen) silver IIIs copies. Black one is so unusual that, as it happens quite often with other cameras, "custom painting" is suspected. One strong argument, which supports this claim in your case it the way measuring chain looks (esp.in pic. #1).....

Definitely not painted, but I am aware of that.

The main difference is the chain is black but when it wears off it’s a brass chain.

Also the case is a smooth black leather and the silver one is a pebbled the brown leather. I still have a silver one and all the accessories.

Had it in my safe for over 10 years. Decided to part with it. Purchased by a European camera buyer, Very satisfied and thrilled to Add it to his collection

I probably spoke from my ignorance then. The only Minox micro film sized examples I saw selling for substantial sums were original "Rigas"....
