Real or fake Leica

Postby fbsgfoto » Thu Nov 08, 2018 7:32 am

i’ve Just purchased this camera which seems to be a Leica IA upgraded. It’s serial number is 25103 and seems to be changed its color from black to nickel as happened to Henri Cartier Bresson one. I would like to know if it is a true Leica or not. Thanks in advanced

Thanks Mauro, i’ve Been investigating. It seems to be a Leica IA built in 1930 and later upgraded. It was repainted to nickel chrome as Henri Cartier Bresson’s first Leica was. My doubt was if it could be a Russian fake but it seems that it could be a real one but I could not find almost any info about this chrome conversions.

Well, at last a Leica expert Jerzy Wasowick has certified that the camera is authentic, the chrome painting and the vulcanite were upgrades lately but no maybe not for Leica. Maybe these were the only upgrading a the camera have. Good news in a world where the most part of Leicas “speak Russian”
