film and camera advice

Postby nealjarrett » Mon Aug 31, 2015 7:33 am

Hi i was recently left this Camara by an relative. It's looks to have film in which has numbers on. I was wondering if from looking at the photo someone could tell me if it's been used? and if so how I would go about getting it developed? The Camara seems in good condition but I'm scared to try it incase I damage it. There is instructions but not really sure what to do. Any advice on how to use it or a way of checking whether it works or not would be appreciated. Also an idea of value would be nice.

Cheers Neal

Very nice Rolleicord I 'Art Deco' you have there. Unfortunately you opened the back of the camera, so the film has been exposed and whatever pictures that were taken with it are all gone, no use having it developed.

If you want to know how to operate your camera, please have a look here: http://www.cjs-classic-cameras.co.uk/manuals/rcord-ad.html

The value is probably around 100 US$.

Good luck.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I'm a bit gutted I opened it as it may have had some old family photos. Still unsure whether to sell it or not but thanks anyways.

Yes, I can imagine that you feel somewhat disappointed.

In case you want to start taking pictures yourself with new film. ... I found this web site which sells all kinds of film for antique cameras. http://www.filmforclassics.com/ They should aslo be able to provide addresses for processing.

Unlike 35mm which is almost certainly unusable if the back is opened in full light, the type of film used in the Rollei 6x6 is different. IF most of the roll was exposed, the light sensitive bits of the film would be protected by the backing paper. Close the camera back, click through the rest of the roll and develop it.
