Re: Camera Values Comparison: 1990 vs. 2005.

There's a problem with the lower end of the list, with the negative values (and by extension, with all). First, $20 shipping is not realistic for most of these cameras. But to make a correct comparison, you must subtract the shipping amount from both the 1991 and 2005 figures to get a correct percen...

Re: Unusual quesion from writer

3-1/4 x 5-1/2 is post card size, so the camera in the photo is a No. 3A Folding Pocket Kodak.

Argus: Argus A Black

This is not the first American 35mm camera, by a very long time. The first American 35 was the first (commercially manufactured) 35mm still camera in the world, the Tourist Multiple, first sold in 1913, beating out the Simplex by a very narrow margin. The Ansco Memo appeared in 1925, so Argus was ha...

Re: 35mm motion picture Wood Body

The wood has nothing to do with it. Various models were made in different woods. Not all were mahogany or teak. However, I don't think it's a Prestwich camera. There were so many different cameras made, some with names, some without. It's pretty difficult to pin some of even the named models down. I...

Re: Victor Animatograph: Victor Cine camera

It's coming along, but it seems that for every question I get answered, two more pop up, so the research is ongoing as I write. I'm planning a trip this fall to look at the Victor archives at the University of Iowa and perhaps by spring, a trip to Rochester to have a first-hand look at some things a...

Re: Victor Animatograph: Victor Cine camera

Yes, but I would have had the sales figures either way. I keep track of all sales of the early Victor cameras, early Cine-Kodaks, and other 16mm equipment from the 20's and early 30's. Data for a book on the early history of the 16mm format. I have both the first Victor and the first Cine-Kodak, alo...

Re: Kodel Homovie 1929

I am not quite familiar with movie cameras, but here is what McKeown's gives for Kodel Kemco Homovie: $1200-1800. McKeown's price does not correspond with actual sales of this camera, and by admission of his source, was conjecture. It is unclear whether the McKeown listing is for camera only or bot...

Victor Animatograph: Victor Ultra Cine camera

Only example ever offered on ebay sold for $686 in October 2008. Extremely rare; only about 80 produced. A correction to the production number: Alan Katelle said he was told that 80 had been produced, but other sources say 50, and the serial numbers of the few known examples support the smaller numb...

Victor Animatograph: Victor Cine camera

Most ebay sales over the last several years have been in the $200 to $400 range, but the two most recent ebay sales were $522 (for serial number 1) and $588. Very rare, usually appears only every two to three years on ebay. (Update 2010) Prices continue to climb for this camera. A Victor Cine Camera...
