Re: Serial numbers

To be welcomed, but quite a bit of work to match with the current lists. Useful for dating objects, but only if the numbers are accompanied by a year. Unfortunately many brands have a rather long timespan for their products. Also some interesting lists may not be in the public domain (books). This ca...

Link Error?

I noticed that some lens lookups do not autoload Ebay listings. To test whether this only was the case for peculiar rarities, I also looked at a fairly common and presumably sought after lens, the Zeiss Planar 50\1,4. Same error message.

Re: Alpa 10d

Original: the item that left the factory or modified by them or their agents as opposed to cameras made from pieces assembled from donor bodies or remaindered spare parts. Usually such projects would be prohibitively expensive, so it would be impossible to make a profit on it, but with the rarer Alp...

Re: Alpa 10d

A cursory glance at the list gives the first 10d as number 52501, the fiirst red one as 53560 and the last red as 56206 in 1971. The 10d numbers- like other Alpa numbers have at times been given out of sequence. While most 10d numbers were in the 5xxxx series below 57099 , there was one 61718 and on...

Re: Alpa 10d

In his compreehensive Alpa book, Lothar Thewes lists quite a range of serial numbers of the red variety ranging from start to finish of the 10d series. Since there are not that many Alpas altogether the spread of numbers is small compared to mass produced cameras. I would not take 40ish as the defin...

Re: Voigtlnder: Vito II

Reasonably robust despite being a bellows camera. Back in the 70\80es, my daughter used one from when she was below 10 up into her early teens. Good traing for estimating light and setting estimated distance and if it was lost or wrecked it would not be at great cost to her father. I imagined that t...

Re: film and camera advice

Unlike 35mm which is almost certainly unusable if the back is opened in full light, the type of film used in the Rollei 6x6 is different. IF most of the roll was exposed, the light sensitive bits of the film would be protected by the backing paper. Close the camera back, click through the rest of th...

Re: Alpa, Leica, and Hasselblad (seeking advise)

For understanding the Contarex and all its various bolt-ons you will find Marco Cavinas book very useful. For the Alpa, it is that of mr Thewes.

Re: Pignons: Alpa 4b

I am looking through the old posts in search of some other info and came across this thread, hence this info may be a bit late. According to the excellent and (almost) entirely accurate list of numbers in mr. Thewes book, the 4b pictured above was made in 1959. As the numbers were given out consecut...

Re: Alpa, Leica, and Hasselblad (seeking advise)

The Zeiss lenses are for the Contarex. Strange that you have found the optics and not the camera. The gilded Alpa is from the time when Pignons started to be deeply worried about its income and started producing for collectors rather than for users. To be entirely complete (for collections of such s...
