Re: Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar Lens

The Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm F2 was made in Contax RF Mount. It is a "Sonnar" formula lens, and had higher contrast and transmission than the Leica lenses of the day. For this reason- many Leica photographers had Sonnar lenses modified to work on Leica cameras. This lens looks like one of them:...

Re: Leitz: 50mm f2 Summitar (SM)

Note the Asterisk next to the serial number. There were "Summitar *" lenses that were prototypes of the Thorium glass Summicrons. I'm betting that someone saw the "*" ans took a gamble on the lens. Some manufacturers also used * to denote duplicate serial numbers, as done with re...

Re: Alpa, Leica, and Hasselblad (seeking advise)

An ideas what these are ? In reference to the 1st page images with the Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar on the wooden camera: The first is a "Regular-8" movie camera from the late 50's, early 60s. These are not worth too much these days, uses "Double-8" roll film. The second- has a Carl Z...

Re: Alpa, Leica, and Hasselblad (seeking advise)

The Fish-Eye lens is for the Leica SLR's, and can be used with an adapter on the new Leica M 240.

Re: Leica M3 very early model

This one is VERY early- and these are going for a premium. This is one that could go to Westlicht Auction House, Kevin Camera (He caters to collectors, but buys low and resells high), Stephen Gandy of cameraquest.com, for Bellamy at Japancamerahunter.com. You need to get close-ups showing cosmetic c...

Nikon: 35mm f3.5 W-Nikkor C (M39)

I just bought one of these on Ebay for $295, "910" series optics, meaning October 1949. and 5003 focus mount- March 1950. This will go with my 5cm F1.5 and 13.5cm F4 from 1949, and the 5cm f2 collapsible- all Leica mount. The seller originally listed the lens as "not working/ for part...

Re: Please help

I would like to see pictures of the last camera from the top view. Markings and serial numbers should be on the top. The lens- a mystery, looks like a Leica Elmar 50mm F3.5 but it is missing the company marking. It might be a very early Russian copy, hard to tell. Russia made "Feds" before...

Re: Carl Zeiss Jena 4cm F1.4, 1920s Serial Numner

This one is rare- ordered in 1927, the batch of 50 was finished in 1930. It is in Thiele, and appears to be the first F1.4 lens by Zeiss, and probably the first F1.4 lens made. It did not sell, my starting price was $1000 less than one went for on Westlicht. I am going to keep it, even my Wife told ...

Re: Nikon: 50mm f1.5 Nikkor-S.C (M39, chrome)

The reflections were not from the glass, they were from the flash bouncing off the interior camera. The glass on the lens is near perfect, no need to open it up and clean. One tiny impression on the DOF scale, otherwise perfect. When listing a lens, I try to light the glass from behind. Even then, s...

Nikon: 50mm f1.5 Nikkor-S.C (M39, chrome)

I bought one in EX+ condition with a MIOJ Canon III for $1500, took an "Ebay Gamble". Seller was honest, stated glass was clear- but Photo's had odd reflections. Mine is a 905 batch, bought June 2013. I wrote an article about it here: http://www.leicaplace.com/showthread.php?t=185 and comp...
