Although ebay is rather useless as a marketplace, your lookup funtion gives interesting info. Lately it has not worked on my machine. Do I have just too many security dettings, or is it a general shortcoming?

necessary? Well, Leica , Contax and Nikon could do with BIogon-type symmetrical wides, but Exakta, the new Contax slr, Practica and Asahis could certainly need wide angles, so the innovation by Pierre Angenieux was absolutely in time to meet demand.

I happened to search for Agfa Solinar and found Alpa under lens producers. They never mada any, but at various times bought in from Angenieux, Asahi, Berthiot, Cosina, Delft, Enna, Kern, Kilfitt, Kinoptik ....and so on. Early ones might have names such as "Algular" , some late ones made by...

Excellent Canon example. Ebay weighting seems a goood way of smoothing data so that longer term trends become visible. Self reported private sales might also possibly be recorded if the sums are accurate. But there are difficulties when -as often is the case between collectors, two-way transactions ...

Solid reasoning. So it is Ebay, who do not bother much about standards who needs to reform first. However, the Ebay auctions linked to some of your lens lists might perhaps as an experiment have their final prices averaged?
