Stolen cameras section

Postby Madd10 » Sun Sep 18, 2016 6:45 am

I was wondering if it would make sense to have a section on the site where one could post descriptions + Serial numbers of cameras that were stolen. So in case if one of the web site visitors spots a stolen camera that is being sold he/she could advise the initial owner who could then take further action.

Yes, but more structured - The link that you show allows for free entries. I see for instance entries like "Germany" where there are two Leica cameras in addition there are different entries for Leica such as Lecia (1), Leica (192), Leica Camera (2), Leica, Germany (1), Leicaw (1). This makes it very unfriendly and probably quite useless.

I would suggest that if you consider such a section it is in some way connected with the existing CollectiBlend database, similar to what you did with the personal camera inventory.

Technically it's easy to implement. I took some time to think about it, and there are two issues:
1) I am not sure how liability works out if someone lists non-stolen camera as stolen, which may backfire while owner tries to sell it;
2) Lately only digital cameras gets stolen (easier to resell), and no one usually cares about checking their serial numbers - too bothersome.

Yes,
Maybe you are right on point 1) it could be tricky.
Thanks for looking into it.
