This camera is mostly plastic but does have some saving graces. The flash unit uses two AA batteries and has an on/off switch on the front as well as a flash ready indicator LED to the left of the viewfinder in the back of the camera. The flash unit also turns on plus off when the built in lens cover is opened and closed. The flash has a 3.5 second refresh rate, this is about how long it will take you to enter the next frame with the thumb wheel film advance. The BF at the end of the name stands for Big Finder and this refers to the viewfinders size. The camera was introduced about 1997 and only has the Braun Photo Technik name. The camera was made in China and Braun ceased making cameras in the 1960s but did lend its name to this project and many others. Braun stopped manufacturing cameras in part because of high labor costs and a resultant inability to compete in the consumer level camera market. Braun did manufacture and sell slide projectors up to 1997 but overall profitability declined precipitously, and in 2000, the company ceased trading. It was reorganized the following year. Braun is still in business and in 2004, Braun made a subtle changed to its name again by adding GmbH. The company is now known as Braun Photo Technik GmbH, and continues to sell and/or manufacture slide projectors, Scanners, digital cameras, and other optical goods as well as optical business applications. The Braun Handy BF is a colorful smart looking camera for its type and just looks better than other cameras of that era with the same features. The back is labeled Braun Photo Technik and the front of the camera has the old Icon Braun with Nurnberg under it. Other features include a 28mm lens, frame counter, rewind release button, fold down rewind crank, film type observation window in the back right hand shutter release, and a handy carry strap.
